Group 1) They took the time to listen to eachothers parts and used silence to emphasis the sounds they used. They used similar sounds to acompany eachothers and used nice textural sounds to fill the piece.

Group 2) This was my group, i was worried that piece wouldn’t gel together to make a successful piece but everything seemed to go to plan. I think we need to use more silence to unclutter our piece and use more interesting sounds.

Group 3) This group was similar to ours because theirs was a process piece that added sound upon sound to build up and eventually fade out. Great use of textural sounds and the improvisation went well.

Group 4) This group incorporated a beat into their piece which was a platform for them to work around, in parts it got to cluttered, maybe more use of silence like my group should have.

Group 5) This group also used a beat in their track but made use of tempo change to keep the listener on their toes, some parts were a bit random and stuck out too much, but i also enjoyed this piece.

Overall was a very enjoyable lesson, to take part and listen to these pieces. My group will take the positive points from everyones pieces and incorporate these into our track.

This is the most widely used mode  You can play it by starting on D (the white key between the two black keys) and play just the white keys to the next D.  This mode is easy to remember: Dorian begins with D and the scale stars on D.  You’ll never forget this mode. It is like a major scale with a flat 3rd and a flat 7th note. Phrygian Mode

This mode begins on E.  Play all the white key up to the next E.  It has a very sad sound and is heard in lots of Spanish, Hebrew, and Gypsy music.  It is the only mode that begins with a half-step.  Composers use this mode when they want their music to sound Oriental.  It is like a major scale with 2 – 3 – 6 – 7 played flat. Lydian Mode

This mode sounds almost the same as the major scale.  It has an odd-sounding 4th note.  Start on F and play all the white keys up to the nextF. It is a major scale with a sharp 4. Mixolydian Mode

This has a long name, but is simple to play.  Start on G and play all the white keys up to the next G.  This also sounds like the major scale, but it has a strange-sounding 7th tone.  It’s used a lot in rock and roll and jazz music.   It is a major scale with a flat 7th note. Aeolian Mode

Just like its name, this mode begins on A.  Start on A and play all the white keys up to the next A.  This is also called the natural minor scale. It is a major scale with a flat 3 – 6 – 7. Locrian Mode

This mode sounds so strange it is almost never used.  It begins and ends on B.  You can forget this one. It is a major scale with a flat 2 – 3 – 5 – 6 – 7.

So i first got involved with music production through being a dj, I’ve been djing drum and bass for about 3 years now and have recently started mixing a bit of dubstep. I helped run a local drum and bass night at the club in my hometown called REMIX  which is in Hitchin, while there i have supported many big names within the drum and bass scene like Logistics, Nu:tone, Danny Byrd, Ltj Bukem and Utah Jazz.

But being a dj can only get you going so far within the music industry and i thought i had to take the next step and start making tracks of my own to play out. I’ve mainly been producing tracks through reason and have a basic understanding of logic, which i’m already getting the hang of due to this course.
